5 Rules to Adhere to When Approaching Others to Write for Your Blog

I have a regular blogging gig over at BloggingTips.com. Since I’ve been writing for that site, I’ve received a few offers to blog for other sites. That’s what prompted this post. Before I detail this post though, I interrupt this missive to make an announcement . . . drum roll . . . this blog’s accompanying site received an award . . .

Now that blogging is becoming more mainstream, it seems that everyone has a blog and the need for bloggers is growing by leaps and bounds. But, like most things in freelance writing, not everyone wants to pay. And, the opportunities are cloaked in phrases like “guest blogging” (which can be great given certain factors) and the over-used word, exposure, which has become synonymous with “no pay.”

My #1 Tip for Creating Better Content

Today’s quick tip will be truly quick, unlike yesterday’s. It is inspired by a post on Skelliewag.org, a great blog by the way.

Today's Freelance Writing Quick Tip

Skellie advises to write in advance, that way you can give more thought to each post, say exactly what you mean to say, avoid being rushed and come up with better ideas. I took this to heart and applied it almost right away.

When I looked at my calendar this week, I knew I wouldn’t be able to write full-fledged posts. What I did though was write out a week’s worth of ideas to post on each day – calling them “Quick Tips for Freelance Writers.” While I didn’t write the actual post, I did write the idea down and do the behind-the-scenes research I wanted to reference in each post (eg, link to a post on another blog).

This has saved me precious time this week, as I usually spend anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours on each post. Read Skellie's post here.
