One Email -- $2,000 Worth of Work!

Before I get to the title of today's email, just want to let you know in case you've been following along that I wrapped up the unofficial six-part series on internet marketing over at BloggingTips.com today. I end it with a look at how to place a traffic-drawing, sales-increasing online ad.

Not the mechanics of it, mind you, but some concrete guidelines to keep in mind as you go about trying to figure out where to place an ad, for how long, how to write it, etc. I hope you've enjoyed this series.

One Email -- $2,000 Worth of Work!

I addressed the question of how to find freelance writing jobs in this post on Copyblogger.com yesterday. The comments to it really highlight what I've been saying all along, ie, "In spite of the economy, there is tons of work out there." Proof?

I did an e-blast to about 50 contacts on Monday and got in about $2,000 worth of work this week -- with several more "maybes" on other projects.

FYI, I rarely send eblasts to this many contacts. I usually do 1-5 contacts per day, but wanted to fulfill a "quota" since I'd been a little lax in marketing the last couple of weeks. And this is why I don't; I usually get overwhelmed. But as the holidays are coming, I'm grateful.

Freelance Writers are in Demand

In speaking with two clients (internet marketing firms), they told me they are busier than ever.

You have to market to bring in the work though. If you do this consistently, you will get work -- it's almost guaranteed. I receive emails all the time about how I get work, which was the impetus for the ebook How to Find Unpublished Freelance Writing Jobs. Within, I disclose all the methods I've used for years to ferret out freelance writing jobs.

One thing I can tell you is that "unpublished" freelance writing jobs are so much easier to get because there's less competition. You'll rarely look at a job board again if you market like this.

Are You Losing Money by Not Spending Money to Make Money Online?

Funky title, huh? Sounds like something Rose would say, which would cause Dorothy to crack her over the head with a newspaper for uttering (Golden Girls fans know what I mean).

In Part II of my post over at BloggingTips.com, I discuss rule #2 of how I knew it was time for me to start spending money to make money online, instead of using free methods like article marketing. An excerpt:

How to Get Freelance Writers to Work for Free

Some freelance writers work for free and don't even realize it. It kind of pisses me off because we seem to be one of the only professions I know of who - as a group -- are highly educated and very skilled. Yet, we are more than willing to spend our time working for mere pennies.

New Ebook! In other news, I'm working on a new ebook, How to Get Out of Debt on a Freelance Salary. It's one that's been on my list to write for a while. With the current credit crisis, bank failures and mortgage industry meltdown, it seems that it couldn't be more timely.

Freelancers have an uncertain salary to begin with. The economic troubles now have a lot of of us running scared. There's no need to be. In spite of what's going on, I've been able to make some good progress paying off debt. I'll explain how/why. Book will be finished in the next two weeks. I'll announce it here.

Internet Marketing: How to Use the News to Drive Traffic to Your Website or Blog

In my regular Wednesday post over at BloggingTips.com, I talked about how to use current events -- eg, what's happening in the news -- to drive traffic to your website or blog.

This is not only a fun way to drive more traffic, but it keeps your posts fresh and timely because it forces you to think about the totality of your demographic's lives. Doing this creates true bonds with your readers, which leads to trust, which leads to sales.

Drive Traffic to Your Site/Blog: Join the Article Marketing Contest!

In the most recent post, I forgot to report my article marekting contest posting for today. My search engine stats have increased yet again. As I reported in the inital post, my results were boosted by 1,000 in only 3 days of article marketing.

Today, I checked again, and it's grown from 26,200 results returned last Thursday, to 26,500 today -- 300 more searches returned. Read the initial post about the contest to see what all this means.

In the initial post entry, the top 10 article banks are listed so you can choose which ones you want to submit to -- or get really ambitious and submit to all of them!

3 Days of Article Marketing Boosted Search Results by 1,000

I recently bumped up my article marketing again. This past Monday, I started submitting my articles to article directories on a regular basis. [See Article Marketing Contest particulars below.]

I hadn't done this for a while, but when I noticed that I've made more passive income from AssociatedContent since they changed their payment policies* (see memo about this below), I decided . . . hmmm, let me get back into this.

Results from 3 Days of Article Marketing

My goal is to submit one article to at least one top-rated article directory (aka article bank) a day. I started on Monday and noticed that a search of my name has generated 1,000 more results since Monday. How do I know?

Well, when I started on Monday, I did a Google search for "Yuwanda Black". It returned 25,200 results. Today, I did the same search and it returned 26,200 results. And, I noticed that my Google AdSense earnings have ticked up just tiny bit too.Now, in the big ole scheme of things, this doesn't mean much. But it does clue me in that my content is being picked up and distributed, hence my website and blog are getting valuable search engine link juice. All of this means I'm getting more blog/website traffic and making a little more money -- so this little bit of article marketing is working. So, I'm running with that!

Time to Post: Articles post instantly at ArticleDashboard.com and IdeaMarketers.com. EzineArticles.com takes a couple of days, as does Amazine.com. ArticleAlley.com can take up to two weeks (those are the ones I've submitted to so far this week).

HTML & More: Also note that each article marketing directory has different posting guideliens (ie, use of HTML, links), which can make some of them a pain to post to. I find EzineArticles.com to be the biggest pain to post to, but it is the #1 article marketing directory on the web, so I recommend it.
