Work for Google as a Content Writer?
Earlier this month, Google announced a new web service similar to Wikipedia, the Knol Project. FYI, Knol stands for a unit of knowledge.
The article, Google's Knol project: A Wikipedia killer?, describes it this way: “With huge amounts of content across the web, it's often hard to find the quality stuff. …[Knol] is a knowledge base – where experts write up articles and users have a chance to benefit from the wisdom.”
Google’s says its key idea is to highlight authors, as explained on its blog, ie:
The key idea behind the knol project is to highlight authors. Books have authors' names right on the cover, news articles have bylines, scientific articles always have authors -- but somehow the web evolved without a strong standard to keep authors names highlighted. We believe that knowing who wrote what will significantly help users make better use of web content. [Source: Encouraging people to contribute knowledge]
How does Knol differ from Wikipedia? Revenue sharing and expertise.
Google’s plan is to recruit expert Knols (authors) for each topic. They will receive a share of the profits from advertising generated by their articles.
In contrast, Wikipedia authors are not paid – its contributors are a community of volunteer writers.
Right now, the project is in beta stage, and it is run on an invitation-only basis. So, not just anyone can be a Knol.
Will this mean web searchers won’t have to wade through so much junk on the web? If anyone can make it happen, Google can.
To read full details on the project, click here.
Keeping you editorially "in the know,"

How I Went from No Clients to $250/day in Less Than 2 Weeks
As a very experienced freelance writer (almost 15 years), I’m amazed at the month I’ve had. One new client I’ve already completed fourteen projects for, and three more serious inquiries for work starting in January.
Remember, December is supposed to be a slow month for freelance writers.
Read on for how I went from no clients to $250/day -- in just over a week -- by breaking into a new freelance writing sector. I'll show you how you can do it too -- this field is wide open for new writers with no experience.
Enjoy!

When You SHOULDN'T Read Other Blogs
To promote your website and/or blog, you need to share. Think social media -- eg, StumbledUpon, Digg, Delicious, etc. Almost every expert touts that one of the best ways to build your website/blog traffic is to read and comment on the sites/blogs of others.
And I agree with this, except in the following instance.
When You SHOULDN'T Read Other Blogs
When you sit down to write for your blog/website: Many would advise that this is the exact time to read what others are writing about and/or what's "hot" on the web. I disagree. Why?
In some cases, it can backfire.
Case in point: You sit down to write a blog post but before you do, you visit some other blogs to get some ideas, do some background reading, etc. Then, you run across a similar post to the one you were going to write. It's written with much more detail and much better than you ever could have written it.
The wind is taken right out of your sails.
Blog Marketing: Why Reading Other People's Blog Can Kill Your Marketing Spirit
While you may still write your post, it's not nearly with the same enthusiasm, depth and passion you would have had you not read the other blog first.
This has happened to me on many occasions, and you know what I realized? There will always be others who are more knowledgeable, with more experience and write more eloquently than I do. While their posts may be "better," a gem hidden in how you said something may resonate with a reader.
It all comes down to believing in what you write, writing from personal experience and having a genuine need to want to share that information to help someone else.
For this, you don't need to read someone else's blog.
I do a lot of online reading -- especially as it relates to how to make money online -- passively. But, I rarely, if ever, visit another blog when I sit down to write for my blogs. I don't want to be encouraged, discouraged and/or overshadowed by someone else's ideas. I want my experience, my passion and my ideas to shine through to the reader.
********************************
Watch money-making videos online.
********************************
That means getting my thoughts down first.
If you're serious about making money online, you're going to have to find something you're passionate about because there are a lot of "unpaid" hours you're going to have to put in before the money starts to flow.
Rarely will you be sustained long term by the ideas and thoughts of others. Most of the content you produce to drive traffic to your blog/website is going to have to come from your insight, your experiences, your suceesses and failures.
So, while reading other blogs is definitely good to keep pace with the industry, don't get in the habit of "relying" on them for your ideas, your insight.
Again, that can only come from you.
Happy writing!

3 Freelance Writing Money-making Tips
I've done three things in the past week that have made me more money -- two directly, and one indirectly. What are they?
3 Ways to Create Passive Income as a Freelance Writer
1. Amazon Store: I added an Amazon store to InkwellEditorial.com. To visit the store, click here. To see how it looks on the site, click here.
It was easy to set up as I blogged about here. The best part of it -- it's passive income. Now that it's set up, I don't have to do anything else.
2. New Blog: I set up a new blog, http://money-making-videos.blogspot.com. This came about because I do a lot of surfing on how to make passive income online. Many of the articles I read tend to have the same rehashed info. So, I started to view videos (on a fluke one day, I viewed one and was amazed at the detail it provided).
So, I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be nice to have a "channel," if you will, of just good videos showcasing how to make money online?" As blogs are easy and free to set up, it only took about 20 minutes (I played around with layout, font, etc. -- it could have taken a 1/3 of that time).
Did you know that you can post YouTube videos to your blog right from their site? Similar to sending an email, you just type in the info and wham, it's posted to your blog (no extra interfaces to go through, links to add, etc.).
Tres cool feature! Technology never ceases to amaze me. So, check out this money-making video channel; I hope you'll enjoy it.
3. Get Listed in Search Engines Faster: This is an indirect money-making tip I got from Paula Mooney's blog. I now submit each new page I create on my blogs and websites by hand to Google -- the instant I create them. Why?
They get indexed faster -- which drives traffic to my site faster (which ostensibly creates a sale faster).
Example: I created my money-making video blog site last Friday night (12/7/07). It was already showing up in results the next day (12/8/07).
Either Google is lacking info on this topic (it was light on results in this category which is one of the reasons I created the site), or the bots indexed my site Friday night or Saturday morning. Either way, I didn't have to wait days, weeks or, pray not -- months -- for it to start popping up.
The add your URL to Google link can be found here. Once you create your page, copy/paste it into the URL box on this page. In the "Comments" box, list keyword/label tags. In my opinion, ths helps to get your site indexed that much faster.
Practically every day I get up, I ask myself, what can I do to add passive income to my bottom line (I don't have many more hours in the day for non-passive income)?
Have some passive ways to generate income online? Send them along to info [at] inkwelleditorial[dot]com.

What is Latent Semantic Indexing & Why You Better Care
I know we just finished Freelance Writer’s Technology Month, but there is so much that was not discussed in the series, that I’ll be writing more often along these lines. Specifically as it relates to internet marketing.
Hence, today's post discussing a relatively new search engine phenomenon that can affect search engine ranking, ie, Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI).
The post discusses why all SEO writers and web entrepreneurs should know -- and care about -- this; why it's the future of internet marketing; why it will make some sites all but disappear from the web. And, most importantly, what you can do to stay on the good side of this technology.
This post was inspired by one of this blog's readers who commented on the launch of my two new websites, SEO-Article-Writer.com (now live) and SEO-Articles-For-Sale (coming in the next few weeks). Thanks for the input Kim!
Enjoy,
