How to Handle Clients Who Cost You Money

Today’s post is another update on a client I first wrote about here. I swear, it’s like all of my troublesome clients have come out of the woodworks lately.

Just to do a quick recap, this was a client who owns endless websites. He hired me to write copy for 25 of them initially. Then, we were to keep going and going and going.

In our last interaction, I had about 30 pages of content to turn into him. A couple of days before I was to turn in the copy, he sent me an email telling me to halt production. Now, as he had already paid upfront, I wasn’t upset about this. What upset me was the fact that this client has a tendency to change his mind in the middle of a project.

After trudging through the project (copy I didn’t particularly enjoy writing, as I kvetched about here), my immediate thought was, “What now?”

Read the rest here.

Tomorrow’s Post: In tomorrow’s post, I’ll detail the story of a client who has a tendency to leave projects hanging in the wind – eg, complete part of it, then wait days or weeks before getting on with successive parts. This costs you money. How do you handle this – stay tuned?

One thing you can say about freelancing -- it’s never dull! (Don't forget to view job listings below!)
