As I've been writing about this week, writing jobs kind of dry up during the summer. Today, I had one of the slowest days I've had since I started SEO writing. The summer started off with a bang -- and I thought it was going to continue that way -- but things have slowed down noticeably and I for one couldn't be happier about it.
Today, I actually finished and uploaded to e-Junkie the ebook entitled How to Start a Profitable, Popular Freelance Writing Blog that I've been putting off for about four months. It lists 8 components every freelance writing blog should have to be popular and profitable. I simply hadn't had time to polish up -- and I'd already written 90% of it. I've been that busy!
How to Generate Income During Your Down Time
Yesterday, I sent out about 75 emails to past contacts and woke up to 6 responses in my inbox this morning. I landed one project from that, which is to start next week -- with the possilbity of two more as well. Nothing's firm with these though, so I don't count them.
Freelance Writing Marketing Tip of the Day: Use your downtime wisely to catch up on projects you never seem to have time for -- and to keep on marketing. In fact, the first thing I did this morning was send out 10 more email queries.
Advice for Newbies & Nervies (Nervous Freelance Writers) During this Slow Season
I know a lot of you may be worried about this slow time. Don't be. If you continue to market, believe me, projects will seem to drop out of the sky come fall. You'll wonder what the heck is going on!
You see, what you are sending out now is being kept on file by many prospects. Proof? One of the inquiries I sent out to old contacts yesterday responded via the very first email I'd sent them last November.
See these summer marketing tips for freelance writers if you missed them earlier this week to figure out how to generate some income during the slow summer months - and right on into the busy fall season.
"When will the work start rolling in?" you may be wondering. After Labor Day, you should see a marked increase in projects. I fully expect to be slammed, because I'm marketing like crazy -- up to 50 queries a week, where I've only been sending out 5-15 b/c I've been so busy.

Get Your Blog Exposed to 40,000 Eyeballs!
Yesterday morning, I woke up to a nice surprise. Sitting in my inbox was a comment from a reader of my post on Copyblogger.com. For those who might be unfamiliar with this site, it is one of the leading sites on the web for freelance writers and copywriters. How prestigious? The RSS feed has close to 40,000 subscribers!
Remember a couple of months back when I wrote about guest blogging? In the post entitled, Why Darren Rowse, John Chow and Brian Clark Scare Me: How Guest Blogging Helped Me to Overcome Fear, I wrote, "Even though they weren’t advertising for guest posters, I submitted posts to CopyBlogger and Problogger. To date, I haven’t heard anything. FYI, site owners won’t respond with a yes or no; they’ll just publish the piece if they decide to use it."
Well, that's exactly what happened. I sent the guest post I impetuously wrote to Mr. Clark, the brain behind Copyblogger, around the first week of May. Yesterday, he published it. I wrote him a thank you and he responded that he'd meant to notify me that it was going to be published, but he was traveling and forgot.
And, the post is still live on the front page. A full 36 hours front and center on a site like this . . . and all it cost me was time. Viva la guest posting! Get on it you all. And, fyi, if you really want to know how to improve your copywriting, this site is a must. Subscribe. Read the post, 3 Things to Consider When Deciding How Long Your Blog Posts Should Be, here on the site.

Why Bloggers are Primed to Make Money Online
Switching gears, do you want to know why bloggers are primed to make money online? Yesterday I wrote about it at BloggingTips.com. It's quite shocking how wide open and easy it is for bloggers to make money online. Read the post to find out why -- and how.

Have a happy 4th of July to my American counterparts. And everyone, I'll see you back here next Wednesday, the 9th. My new website design is almost done, so I'll be unveiling a new look soon for InkwellEditorial.com. Stay tuned!

Blog Jealousy? 4 Things You Can Learn from Famous Bloggers
A few things to address today:
1. The newsletter is out. It's here if you want to read it (it's a pdf file). Once the new site is done in a couple of weeks, you'll have to be a subscriber to get it. So subscribe if you want next month's issue -- which is shaping up to be a real page turner.
Wanna know how to make some passive income? For the August issue, I have lined up four successful affiliate marketers to interview. They are making good money (not outrageous so you don't think it's unachievable, but comfortable). As someone who's been none too successful with affiliate marketing, I can't wait to hear what they have to say. Passive income is my retirement!
2. My regular post over at BloggingTips.com today was on the subject of blog jealousy. Yeah, I get it. Do you? After reading about the same three or four bloggers on every other blog, sometimes you may just want to hurl. But before you do, check out what you can learn from them. Read the post here.
3. Content Writing Tutorial: Yesterday's post was the first in a three-part series about how to create traffic-generating content. I will pick this up tomorrow. I quite frankly forgot that the newsletter was coming out today, and that I had a post over at BT, so I figured that was enough for you to eyeball today.

How Tech Savvy Do You Have to Be To Make Money Blogging?
This is what I posted about over at BloggingTips.com today. I was pondering this as I wrote the almost 2,000-word tutorial that was yesterday's post, ie, How to Make Money Blogging by Selling Your Blog Posts.
Writing that post made me realize two things: (i) I have a lot to learn; and (ii) I know a lot more than I thought I did. According to Technorati's 2006 State of the Blogosphere report, "As of October 2006, about 100,000 new weblogs were created each day." That's 36.5 million new web presences a year! Holy kamolie!
At the time, Technorati was only tracking 56 million blogs. It currently tracks over 112 million, so the numbers are probably even higher today, a full one and a half years later. While many of these blog will die off, they still get in the way of you making money online as a blogger, web entrepreneur and/or internet marketer.
The three tips I outline in today's post was designed to do two things: (i) make you crystallize what you know; and (ii) help you to realize what you may be lacking.
While making money online is fun (I still cant' believe I'm able to do it, which means you can too), it is a lot of work. But, becoming more tech savvy can make it an easier journey. Enjoy the post.
Article Marketing Contest Update: Yesterday, I submitted, A $15/Per Article Writing Gig - It's For Real! to ArticleAlley.com. No posts today -- swamped and on deadline.

Will You Ever Make Money Blogging? Answer 1 Question to Find Out
In light of my recent blog debacle, I'm getting a new blog designed. Several people have written in asking me various questions about it. So I addressed them in today's post at BloggingTips.com.
One thing I want to say I've learned about getting a blog designed from scratch is that you have to put some thought into it. Choosing colors, layout and font type are all part of it. But, the most critical component to pay attention to when you're getting a blog designed from the ground up, so to speak, is purpose.
Do You Know Your Blog's Purpose?
As in, what purpose does your blog serve -- or would you like for it to serve. Every design decision you make should support this decision. Read more about it in How to Design the Perfect Blog for Your Business.
Also in this post is a link to a guest post I did which appeared on Meryl.net on Monday. It's all of the hard-learned lessons I gleaned from my recent blog troubles. That post is entitled
7 Things You Must Know Before Moving Your Blog.
Article Marketing Contest Update: No posts yesterday (will make up for the two I've missed so far by posting right through the weekend). I posted the article, How to Set SEO Writing Rates to Make $250-$500+/Day to Amazines today. Want to know more about article marketing? Click here.

Blog Posting Frequency: How Many Times a Day Should You Post to Build Traffic
One of the most effective ways to increase your blog's traffic is to post to it several times a day. But, if you're like me -- an overworked freelance writer who doesn't have time to do that -- you may be thinking, "Do I really need to post several times a day?"
Blog Posting Frequency: Why You Shouldn't Worry about Posting Multiple Times a Day
My answer is probably not, and here's why.
Search engines look for fresh content. While posting more frequently to your blog will get your site crawled more by search engines (hence increase your backlinks), if your blog posts quality content, it will get linked to (create backlinks) and over time, you will still build up site traffic.
The phrase over time is italicized because it's a slower build.
The thing is, some popular sites (eg, DoshDosh.com) post less than once a day and still get tremendous traffic. But, they've built their reputation to the point where they can afford to do this. And, as Maki points out in this post, you need to figure out what you want from your blog. That, in large part, will help you determine a blog posting frequency.
How to Quickly Build a Blog Audience
If you want to quickly build a blog audience, though, you will no doubt have to post not only top-quality content, but do it several times a day when you first start out. Then, you'll have to promote it. This can be via article marketing, social networking, PPC ads, etc. You can slack off after you've hit critical mass, which will probably take six months to a year or more. Again, it all depends on what you want your blog to achieve.
As blogging Johnathan Fields reveals in his post, Posting patterns of top-bloggers revealed, "It seems pretty clear the biggest bang for your blog-launch buck and quest to hit your tipping point is daily posting. And, once you’ve hit that magical critical mass that fuels highly-accelerated growth, a variety of options are available, with the unifying quest being the need to maintain quality."
I've vascillated on this. I tried to cut back consistently -- and do when I'm extremely busy -- but I tend to pretty much post 3-4 times a week. As I tend to write long posts, I don't feel the pressure to absolutely, positively push out 5-7 posts a week.
What do you think? How often do you update your blog? What posting schedule would you like me to maintain?
Article Marketing Contest Update: On Friday, I posted the article, 8 Keys to Making Between $75,000 to $100,000/year as a Freelance SEO Writer, to IdeaMarketers.com. Yesterday, I posted the article, Blog Posting Rates: How Much Should You Charge for Blog Posting, to Amazines.com. Today I posted 5 Signs It's Time to Move Your Blog to Another Platform to Amazines.com.
[Note: I tend to post to these two article directories a lot b/c they're not fussy like EzineArticles.com, for example, yet still carry high-quality articles.]
Hope everybody enjoyed the long weekend. I worked. I tend not to mind working on holidays because the pressure of checking email, getting back to clients and being "at the ready" is not there. So on those rare occasions when I do find myself having to work on a holiday, I find it more relaxing than cumbersome.
And, the fact that I'm going to Jamaica in July doesn't have a thing to do with this attitude :-).

How One New Freelance Writer Netted Enough Clients to Quit His Job in Just 12 Hours
That's what's covered in this month's issue of Inkwell Editorial's newsletter. To read the last issue, click here. Then, subscribe to read this, the latest one. FYI, there's also a warning about what to do if you’re thinking abut moving your blog. Learn from my disastrous story.
There are also some freelance writing job leads, a freelance writing goals update (how are yours coming along?) and more, like a . . .
Special Ebook Offering: Get 8 Ebooks Free. You have to subscribe to learn how to take advantage (come on, you know you want to!)
Blog Topic Today: In my regular Wednesday slot at BloggingTips.com, I give you soome first-hand advice on why you must keep blogging in your old spot -- even after you move your blog. Read the article 2 Reasons You Must Keep Blogging at Your Old Blog When You Move to Another Domain.
As you know from my recent troubles, it ain't no fun to have your blog suddenly go down. You can also find out the lastest on WHY (I just learned today) in the newsletter.
Article Marketing Contest Update: No posts today. I have date night with my fiance -- and have simply run out of time to get more done (I did some this past weekend though, so technically haven't "missed" a day)!
NOTE: To repeat, I've left wordpress and will continue to blog here -- for at least the next three to four months, if not longer. This URL has good search engine juice, and until I can get my new blog established, I'm just gonna keep updating this one.

5 Signs It's Time to Move Your Blog to Another Platform
Before we get to today's post, an announcement . . .
As of today, Inkwell Editorial's blog has moved from blogger to wordpress. My blog's home here will never be forgotten, as it's where I cut my teeth on this medium, which has brought me profound success. So, goodbye blogger, it's like ending a relationship with a lover that you still crave and adore, but realize it's time to move on. Following are some relationship rules that signal whether it's time to move your blog to another platform.
Signs It's Time to Move Your Blog to Another Platform
Relationship metaphors are perfect to judge whether it's time to move yoru blog to another platform. Because, just ike your significant other, you enter into a relationship when you blog. And, over time, that relationship will exhibit the ups, downs, joys and pains of any other type of relationship. Hence, should be assessed through the same lens.
Here goes. . . signs you and yoru blog need to find new relationships . . .
1. You shouldn't fight too much at home: If you yell, scream and roll your eyes, and bang your keyboard because of some glitch with your blog, it's time to move on.
2. Love is Freeing: If you're constantly frustated at your blog's limitations and find yourself wishing that it had that feature or this, then it's time to move on.
3. You Should Grow Closer Together Over Time, Not Further Apart: Piggybacking on the last point, your blog's capability should grow with you, not inhibit you.
4. Love is Faithful: Even though you may crave all the bells and whistles of another blogging platform, if you find that you've actually tried out another one (ie, cheated on your primary blog), then it's definitely time to move on.
5. I Can't Stand the Sight of You! If everytime you look at your blog you feel that it's lacking, it's time to move on.
Hasta luego, mi amor. Tal vez en el futuro, encontremos otro vez. Un beso y abrazo muy fuerte por todo!
Visit me in our new new home at http://inkwelleditorial.wordpress.com. We start off with a bang in today's post, entitled, Are You Stunting the Growth of Your Online Business?

Guidelines for Building a Freelance Writing Portfolio by Blogging
As many of you know, I contribute to AssociatedContent a lot. One of my subscribers over there asked an interesting question that I answered in my regular Wednesday post at BloggingTips.com.
He, in essence, wanted to know how to build his freelance writing resume by blogging. Even though he's a newbie to freelance writing, I felt compelled to answer because: (i) well, he asked; and (ii) as I say in today's post, I think many of us who have much more experience are hesitant to answer these types of posts in detail because we get them all the time and seem to answer them in 100 different ways.
Knowing What NOT to Do Is as Important -- Or More -- Than Knowing What to Do
But, as this had to do with blogging in particular, which is a relatively new medium (compared to say newsletters or article marketing), I thought it deserved and in-depth post (if for no other reason than to tell him what NOT to do). You can read the full missive here.
Don't forget to read the comment (the first one as of this writing). It's quite illuminating I thought. I have personal experience with this and have been thinking about doing a post on it for a minute now. In due time . . . in due time.
TOMORROW'S POST: We'll turn the tables and I'll answer a question sent in by an SEO writer who is kind of a victim of her own success. Don't forget to check out the freelance job listings below.
Stay tuned!

Do You Blog Out of Fear?
What does I mean exactly by this question? How does it affect your business? Is blogging even beneficial for your business? How do you tell? Today's post at BloggingTips.com tackles all of this -- and a bit more.
FYI, I just happened to click over to Pat B. Doyle's site (an internet marketer I interviewed in the latest issue of Inkwell Editorial's newsletter), and she comments on this in a roundabout way in her March 3rd post.
Freelance Writing Jobs / SEO Writing Jobs
Note about job listings: I list positions that offer immediate work – and future work. Keeping your pipeline full requires taking a long-range approach and thinking out of the box (eg, sending in your credentials to FT postings). That’s why I provide explanations as to why I list certain positions. My goal is to get freelancers to start thinking of marketing as an on-going business task, not a one-shot, “apply to this gig b/c it’s open” thing.
Freelance Copywriter
Freelance Writer/Resesarch Assistant
SEO Copywriter
SEO writing/editing for architectural websites
Daily Blog Writer
Writer for Web Portal
Website Content Writers Needed
Real Estate Writer/Reporter Wanted
Medical Writer (good to apply for b/c (i) medical writers are always in demand; and (ii) even if they find who they're looking for FT, they will probably use freelancers from time to time).
Editor (ad mentions that this positon will oversee freelancers; hence, they use them, so good to apply for).
Hope everybody had a productive Wednesday. I'm at it a little late tonight -- doing some catchup from earlier in the week.
Always editorially yours,

Blog Marketing: How to Get Free PR for Your Blog
I recently “hired” a PR firm for my blog. Why is hired in quotation marks? Let me explain.
I turned a tip I got from reader Viqi French’s blog into a post on my blog. After I completed the marketing task written about here, I went back for seconds and completed another marketing task (#2) mentioned in this post on her blog.
This is when I got hit with a Eureka moment – why not “hire” this blog as my firm’s PR rep! After all, I was already implementing some of the suggestions listed here. If I checked back on say a weekly basis and just did even on thing suggested by this online marketing firm, in a year’s time, I could be deriving some real benefit from my PR efforts.
How to Hire a PR Firm for Your Blog/Website -- FREE
Following are some things to look for in an online marketing firm – whether it’s paid, or free.
Marketing Expertise: The first thing you want to look for is if the firm has the type expertise you’re looking for. Viqi French, the author behind FiercelyStrategic.blogspot.com is, according to her online bio, “… a Chicago-based publicist and writer who operates a marketing and publishing boutique, Pet Leopard Communications.”
Industry Expertise: Over and beyond overall marketing and PR expertise, any firm you hire should have expertise particular to your niche.
I like Viqi’s blog because she understands the industry I work in – e-publishing. So, she knows about traditional offline methods (eg, brochures and press kits) in addition to online methods like article marketing and ebook publishing (she’s authored her own ebook).
The fact that she’s authored her own book means that the advice she dispenses comes from firsthand experience – which I know from publishing my blog/website is the best kind of advice.
Detailed Advice: Some blogs are written as snippets. There’s no real meat; that’s saved for paid membership clubs or some kind of fee. And, let me rush to say, this is fine.
If you’re going to “hire” a blog to get some PR help from though, it needs to be one that is detailed. As you’re going to be doing the actual work, you’re going to need some kind of depth to the posts.
Check out my revamped, completed Squidoo Lens here. I had set it up a few months ago, but never published it. Upon reading this post on Viqi’s blog, I went back and completed it.
NOTE: Many of the tips you're going to run across you may already be familiar with. However, like hiring a personal trainer, you may know what to do, but when you "hire" someone to tell you what to do, you feel more obligated and dedicated. And, this is what most need to keep them on track with their marketing efforts.
Today’s a holiday; ostensibly you have some time. So, log on and see what PR you can get done to further your online marketing efforts! See this post to get started.
Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day everybody.

How Weekend Blogging Can Increase Your Freelance Writing Success
I've been having an incredible run of success in my freelance writing lately. I targeted a new niche -- SEO writing -- that's taken off amazingly. You can read about that here.
I published my 8th ebook that's been my fastest selling one to date. And, my blog and website rankings are spiking.
Get More Weekend Traffic for Your Website/Blog: How Weekend Blogging Can Increase Your Freelance Writing Success
Why am I telling you all this? Because success inspires success. I'm so excited that I'm inspired to blog on the weekends, something I practically never do. But, as weekend traffic on blogs and websites is usually low, why do it?
A post at DoshDosh.com I read a few weeks ago inspired me to examine this, in spite of the downturn in traffic -- and make it successful. If you're serious about making money online by the way, DoshDosh is a "must favorite" site. It's one of the few I visit on a regular basis.
The one tip I've found to be incredibly true in this post over at DoshDosh is commenting on blogs.
Maki (DoshDosh webmaster) writes: "While many blogs don’t update during the weekend, you can still comment on the ones that do. Focus on those with more traffic and try to be the first few to leave a comment. Make your comment relevant and you’re likely to receive some visitors from others who visit the same blog."
I spent a couple of hours last night posting comments to some blogs and just before I logged off, checked my PayPal account one last time. At 1:20am what did I find -- an ebook order.
Now, can this be attributed to my late-night blogging efforts? Who knows. But, what I do know is that most of my orders are received during daylight hours. A late-night order is unusual. So ...
On Monday, I'll give some specific tips on "late-night blogging" to help you increase your income. I've been doing it for the last few weeks, and have seen some definite results.
Enjoy the weekend everybody.
Sincerely,
Yuwanda Black, Publisher

Why Freelance Writers Shouldn't Blog for Money
I ran across a post on Problogger.net the other day entitled, How to Make Money Blogging - What We Wish We Knew. The post basically was about things bloggers wish they knew when they first started out.
As Darren Rowse, the webmaster at Problogger put it: “In this post I’ll share readers comments on the topic of making money from blogs as well as some of my own experiences and advice.”

Blogger Chris @ Martial Development commented: “I wish I had known that your choice of niche will affect your contextual ad revenue by a factor of 100! And that certain niches can therefore never, ever be profitable with Adsense!”

$132,994.97 in Google Earnings!
It's Friday and I'm still in my writing funk. BUT, like a junkie with a drug habit, I felt the need to post today -- something I usually don't do on Friday's.
So, I'm bringing you this little missive.
What about the Google earnings you mention in the title? I'm gettin' there.
Alas, the check didn't belong to me -- it belonged to Jeremy Schoemaker, the brain behind ShoeMoney.com. Of it, he writes, "This was the bigest paper check I have ever recieved. It was way back in August of 2005 and since I have moved to wire transfers so dont look for anything bigger from me."
I ran across Jeremy's site in Paula Mooney's blog -- specifically, her post on blogger salaries, which, if you read yesterday's post, will see that I referenced. Paula -- geniously I think, compiled a list of blogger salaries.
While some moan that it's incomplete, it's a good snapshot on who's making what in the blogosphere.
For grins, giggles and "I want that" envy, click here for more Google checks featured on ShoeMoney.com. Now, does that inspire you to get going on a site!
Enjoy and be inspired.

How to Know When It’s Time to Shut Down Your Blog
I’ve been blogging for a little over two years now. And, to be honest, there were times when I wanted to just shut it down. I’ve even gone as long as a month without updating it. But, alas, like an addict, I started to update it again.
While blogging may be addictive, following are two signs it’s time to shut down your blog. NOTE: I’m referring to professional blogs, not personal ones.
1. Not updating regularly: If its hard for you to find the time to blog, maybe it’s time for you to shut it down.
Blogs that are irregularly updated reeks of unprofessionalism – in my opinion. It’s like an unfinished project you leave out there for the world to see. To gain a base readership, readers have to be able to depend on you to deliver on a regular basis. And, regular could be whatever you set them up to expect, eg, daily, weekly, bi-monthly, etc.
POST CONTINUED BELOW
****************************
****************************
The point is, whatever schedule you set, let your readers know what to expect so your blog doesn’t look like it’s been abandoned.
To make a living as a freelance writer, you have to become ruthless with your time – almost like an assassin. While this may seem a bit diabolical, it’s the difference between being able to make a full-time living, and complaining about not being able to make a full-time living.
How to Officially Shut Down Your Blog
Like quitting a job, there is a right and wrong way to officially shut down your blog.
I remember when I first shut down my site, InkwellEditorial.com, in December 2004 to revamp it. I received close to 100 emails within 30 minutes of sending out the “shut down” memo.
I saved the feedback because it was overwhelmingly positive and let me know how much users had appreciated me and my company over the years. When I’m feeling blue about business, sometimes I read through these emails. They are a real spirit booster.
Rule #4: Say “Thank You” to Your Readers. After you’ve answered all the feedback you can – and to make a concerted effort to respond to everyone – even if it’s just to acknowledge receipt of the email – send a final thank you and wish your readers well in their endeavors.
Now, that’s a classy way to end any relationship – even if it was only a virtual one.

Blogging Cash in Your Pocket!
Blogging has brought me many benefits - many which have led directly to cash in my pocket. Following are the things that have led directly to more income from my blogging efforts:
a) Wholistic Body of Work: I recently picked up a client who came across my blog while surfing the web.
POST CONTINUED BELOW

*************************
Without even asking, he told me that he liked by conversational style of writing and could tell that I "knew my stuff." He was talking about my marketing ability.
No marketing, no persuading, no samples - he handed me a project right off the bat. All because he was able to read through almost two years of blog posts, which gave him an idea of what I could do for him.
b) Better Writing Style: This kind of ties into the aforementioned point, but blogging has made me a better writer. Before I sweated over every word and really didn't have much confidence in my ability as a "saleable" writer.
I thought copywriting was some type of rocket science that I just didn't do well. But, the more I did it and the more clients were pleased with what I turned in, the more confidence I gained.
I've written e-books, postcards, web copy, newsletters and sales letters - and almost everything in between. Blogging has innately given me a "feel for the right words." It's hard to explain. But, I no longer feel intimidated or panicked by a project.
Because I write a lot, I'm confident in my ability to do a project.
2 Tips To Better Writing Skills
Write Headlines: What do I mean? Many times, I will write down just a headline without having any idea of what type of copy I'm going to write. But, 99% of the time, I am able to come up with copy to fit that headline.
I think this comes from working the old brain muscle. Eg, the more you write, the more ideas you will be able to flesh out.
Write Tight: As in, develop the habit of saying what you want to say in as few words as possible. Cut, cut, cut! While this skill may take some time, it will pay off when you have numerous projects on your desk that have to be done, and/or if you work in advertising.
Many commercials (radio and TV) require tight copy. When the client is paying $250,000 for a 30-second spot, they're not going to want Shakespeare.
c) Speed: When I first started blogging, I would spend anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours on a post. Now, I knock it out in 30 minutes or less - without sacrificing quality.
This has increased my income because I apply the same rapidity to rote client projects (eg, those projects I consistently handle for clients). Again, without sacrificing quality.
d) More Self-production: Blogging forces you to focus. When I sit down to write a post, I almost always finish it because I have in my head what I want to say and I want to get it out before it disappears.
I apply this same intensity and rapidity to client projects wherever possible. While it's not possible to finish all client projects in one sitting, I do focus more when I am working on them and am able to get more done in one sitting than before I started blogging.
Again, I think it's a matter of working some portion fo the brain. Like any muscle, the more you use it, the better it performs.
e) More Product Sales: This is kind of obvious, but I sell more stuff (my e-books) because I've cultivated a loyal readership who trust my opinion. So, when they need the type of info I offer, they purchase from me instead of the gazillion other freelancers on the web.
Blogging is not an immediate way to make money. And, it's hard work. But it's those who blog consistently, write well and become an authority of sorts, who turn blogging into cash.

Lessons Learned from Two Years of Blogging (Part I of III)
Happy Birthday InkwellEditorial.blogspot.com! Today this blog is two years old. I never knew that it would add so much to my career, but oh boy, has it.
Following are some lessons I’ve learned from the past two years of blogging.
1. Determine Why You Blog: I liken this to driving without directions. How do you know where you want to go unless you have a destination in mind? Having a purpose in mind will also focus you more.
2. Appreciate Your Style: My writing style on this blog is what I term “conversational business-like.” I throw in a bit of self-deprecating humor to illuminate points, and voila, I have a writing style.
3. More is Better: As in, more posts. Update your blog regularly for maximum effect. Search engines are driven by content. The more you feed the hungry search engine monster, the more popular your blog becomes, the more links you get and the higher your PR rankings.
For example, my 11/706 post was entitled, Should Freelance Writers Have a Minimum Wage? In this article, I proposed a minimum pay scale. I got some flack from that. BUT, at least it started a debate (or rather, continued one that’s been raging fiercely since content writing became the rage).
5. Blog Topically: As in, tie in what’s going on in the news to what you blog about. The article mentioned above is a good example of this. I got this idea for an article while watching CNN one morning as they were discussing the new minimum wage that went into effect in 7 states this year. I need to do more of this myself.
6. Stay Away from the Obvious: Many times I will click on an article on the web with an interesting title, only to be bored to tears with obvious information that can be found on the web in a two-second search.
The post, 34 Reasons Why Readers Unsubscribe from Your Blog on problogger.net bears this out. “Redundant, repeated or recycled news is one of the top five reasons why people unsubscribe to RSS Feeds,” according to feedback sent in from readers.Surfers are looking for information.
7. Don’t Overpromote: As in, your products, services, etc. Remember, readers want useful information. While using your blog to promote your products/services is fine, too many ads or too much self-promotion is a big turn-off.
Tomorrow: Part II of this post.
